Michael Arrington is right: Jason Calacanis would've taken less flak if he'd re-worked his post first. "Sack the non-workholics" was bound to goad people. And some of Calicanis' advice -- the bits you quote especially -- is actually good.

The disturbing aspect for me, and what triggered my post that you link to, was the underlying attitude to fellow humans: cutting every hour that they weren't at their desk, and that anyone who wan't a massive workaholic -- he uses that word at least twice -- isn't suitable for anything except menial work.

Maybe Calicanis doesn't "literally chain people to their desk", but his use of language indicates that he thinks any time not slaving away at the keyboard is slacking off.

I honestly believe that to be a dangerous attitude. And I choose my words carefully.

Over the weekend my passions continued on this subjects, and today I posted a lengthy polemic which is bound to cause controversy. Good. I think Calicanis' macho winner-takes-all and devil-take-the-hindmost attitude needs challenging.

[...] Blumer.com.ar - IT Blog for Blumer.com.ar by Claudio M. E. Bastos Iorio wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerpt Ok - I read a lot of books about startups (and ordered more here - and certainly will try it myself) and the early stage to seed funding and investor-rounds etcetera. But this what the CEO from Mahalo wrote is (I think) the best on-top view for guys who didn’t considered their balance-sheet and costs while writing a business plan or talking with possible contacts (talk is cheap). Buy Macintosh computers, save money on an IT department Buy second monitors for everyone, they will save at least [...]
