1-18-08 - A slight overview ‘viral advertising’
Fact: It will be a remake of something which was years back already produced.
- @ IMDB
- THA TEASER and the Apple movie link and Paramount Picture Homepage.
- Maybe a Power Rangers Movie? (YouTube)
- But no Godzilla Movie and no Cuthulu Movie (YouTube)
- CNBC report (YouTube)
It is reported that they have only a $30 million budget, not a heck of a lot for a monster movie.
You don’t need that much money for one hand-held camcorder and shoot only from one point of view.
- 1-18-08 as search term in YouTube alone has already over 200.000 views from different videos
- I found over 8.000 Blog entrys on Google for 1-18-08
- and currently about 100 news
To add my 2 pence about speculation - the growl sounds kinda mechanic and the big explosion is kinda pyrotechnical - I mean a creature with flesh and blood can’t wipe out with his bare hand NY or create such an even half-round explosion ball flame thing.
What the community’s already does have produced - is pretty amazing.
“It was so mysterious that I had no idea that this was going to be a big-budget film or an independent type movie. So I was shocked to hear about the trailer and the buzz it’s getting. I’m hearing from friends across the country. It’s fun.”
“Regarding the online stuff you posted: Yeah, we’re doing some fun stuff on the Web. But, obviously, if the movie doesn’t kick some massive ASS, who gives a rat’s about what’s online? So as you can imagine, we’re focusing mostly on THAT.”
This upcoming movie is already known under experts as ‘par excellence’ in viral marketing/advertising.
- Google.com has already about 6,620,000 results for viral marketing and 7,550,000 for viral advertising.
We live in an interconnected world - the internet/Web 2.0 - with many communities and mavens and leaders and professionals. Why not taking advantage of that. That doesn’t mean that you can’t spent some millions in a traditional ad campaign later on.
About Viral Marketing/Advertisement
Some of the benefits of viral marketing with the assistance of Intoweb include:
- Cost effective way to increase leads
- Viral marketing may have an original small capital lay-out in some instances, but provides an excellent return on your advertising investment.
- Long term benefits since the message spreads at an ongoing basis.
- Easy to manage systems.
- Almost unlimited numbers of people can be reached.
- Makes use of existing subscriber and communication lists (alias communities).
- Helps companies to develop viral marketing through content rich newsletters and affiliate programs.(which means it is still not definable what you have to have for success and what are the do’s and don’ts)
New connected technologies
It seems viral marketing has been quick to take advantage of advancements in Internet, and other connected technologies. The explosion of user-generated content on the Internet has become a particular focus for viral marketers. The use of social networking and community websites, either existing (such as with Xmen and Myspace) or purpose built (Nike’s Joga Bonita) is already seen to be a major marketing tool with huge potential. Many questioned saw real value in the viral nature of the way that users interacted with brands by generating their own content, or recommending brands as trusted ‘friends’ to their peers. As well as this some respondents also saw value in the seeding of high value blogs. Outside of the pure Internet viral marketers also saw huge potential viral value in campaigns that involved and embraced other media, such as Bluetooth and SMS campaigns.

Do not let it look too obvious.
“My clients can either spend their money on a one off 30 second TV spot on Big Brother sandwiched between toothpaste and car adverts or a month’s worth of viral activity where consumers can engage with brands at a deeper level and potentially reaching millions” - Nick Fisher, Quantum Media Buyer

The Failure of Viral Advertising
http://www.answers.com/topic/viral-marketing?cat=biz-fin
Viral spread happens everyday, but often not on a large scale when it comes to commercial messages. Hardly any stories or campaigns spread overnight to the whole world. It is simply too difficult to create a commercial message that relevant or entertaining. So, spreading a campaign throughout the entire pyramid is possible, but very seldom a reality. That’s why you need seeding. -> HERE ARE SOME CASE STUDIES
Companies are smart enough to have realised that one of the triggers to creating a recall value for brands is by encouraging consumers to actively engage and interact with brands. Corporates are focussing on enhancing the reaction quotient of consumers towards brands. Webgames are a very powerful example of how the modern consumer is engaging with the product with the result that the consumer starts identifying with the values and offerings of a particular brand without even being consciously aware of it.
